Preschool Graduation

Posted in Uncategorized on July 27th, 2005 by sklteach

Hunter officially graduated from Pre-School last night. The little guy who was terrified to sing Christmas songs in front of people in December, got up in front of 200+ people, without incident. He said a line of a poem, sang a song, and danced the Cha Cha Slide. We were so proud of him. I must admit he was one of the best dancers up there. Every now and then you could catch him smiling.

Kindergarten - here we come……..

Ed’s Mild Heart Attack

Last week we received an envelope in the mail containing Hunter’s school supply list. After Ed’s jaw came back into it’s original position - it was determined we might need to take out a small loan to purchase the necessities. My favorite part - EVERY crayon, marker, glue stick and scissors must be labeled with his name on it.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the Hunter School Supply fund - may do so.

Hunter’s End of the Year party

After returning from a week of sleeping on the floor of a high school classroom, taking showers with flip flops on and eating cafeteria food - I really wondered if I had completely lost my mind. We had scheduled Hunter’s Pre-K class to have their end of the year party at our house. 19 - 5 year olds and their families.

WHAT A BLESSING it was. I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun we had with these families. One of the dad’s owns Alabama Rentals - he brought over a 40 foot train bounce around with a climbing wall and slide in it. The kids bounced until they could bounce no more. Finally we turned the sprinkler on so they could cool down - we did pick the hottest day of the summer so far to do this. Ed grilled hot dogs. The hit of the day was the popsicles which were a last minute idea.

We all enjoyed our time and are sad that our children will be going seperate ways in 10 days. But what a joy these children have been.

Pre-K graduation is tomorrow night….more to come.

Where Do I Begin????

Posted in Uncategorized on July 25th, 2005 by sklteach

Last week was an absolutely INCREDIBLE week. I was fortunate enough to chaperone 32 of our high school students on a World Changers trip. Our kids were wonderful! The people we worked for and with were unbelieveable. (I am going to run out of adjectives!) I learned to remove a tin roof and put another one up, ripped the walls out of a storage shed (that we converted to what will become a cottage for retreats), pulled old insulation out, put new up, put in new lights, painted walls and ceiling, primed the outside of a building, dry-locked the cinderblock, and re-painted EVERYTHING!!!!! Oh yeah - cut down a laurel thicket and prayed the whole time when I reached down I wouldn’t grab a copperhead that frequently visited our site (just not while we were there). It was an amazing week - there is TOO much to type. We will get pictures up soon I promise.

I do know one thing - I WILL NOT BE GOING WHITEWATER RAFTING ANYTIME SOON - OR EVEN IN THIS LIFETIME! Boy do I have a story to tell along with my jammed finger that is bruised and the bruises on my backside.

The Adventures of Brantley!

Last night I was standing at the kitchen sink and looked out the window. I saw Brantley walking down the lawn to our neighbors house with MY PURSE. Ed went out the door to see what was up. She returned to the kitchen - with my purse and LIPSTICK on her face once again. When asked why - no straight answer came out. Now keep in mind - my purse was in the car. Meaning Brantley had to get in the car, get the lipstick out of a zipped up compartment - open it up (it is a lip gloss style tube), put it on and then put everything back in the purse - get out and start her walk to the neighbors.

A few minutes later Ed got to looking for Maggie (our dog). We searched the house and couldn’t find her. We called to her outside - no answer. We thought she might have run off again because there were storms in the area and she is TERRIFIED of lightening. Brantley, in as innocent a voice as she could muster up, told us Maggie was in the car. When she had gotten my purse apparently Maggie jumped in. Brantley thought she wanted to be in ther and left her put.

Needless to say - we have had ANOTHER talk about mommy’s lipstick and purse and a NEW talk about not leaving animals or people in a car with the doors shut.

The adventure continues…….

I was searching around the AAA Travel site working on an upcoming trip and found this link: Fuel Finder. It helps find the cheapest fuel for you. Hope it will help us all save a few bucks.

Dodging Another Bullet

I have about decided that the reason my parents moved to Mobile is dodge the hurricanes that keep coming into the Panhandle. God is good and has protected them each and everytime. The house in Milton - we can’t say the same about. They lost more trees this time - if there were any left to lose and the house had some damage. The community of Milton and Pace was hit pretty had. This link shows a pretty neat map of the path of destruction and what happened. Our home in Milton is just about where the “g” is located in Dogwood Drive.

Happy 4th of July

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend at Ed’s parent’s new place on Lake Martin. I ate more food than you can possibly imagine. But boy it sure was good.

I learned this weekend that Brantley is a dare devil. After calling her Uncle Dave a “chicken”, they jumped off the boat in the middle of the lake for a swim. Hunter followed - but only after someone else went first. Then Hunter and Brantley enjoyed a ride in “Big Bertha” (an inner tube pulled behind the boat). Hunter HATED it - so he says, Brantley loved it and wanted to go FASTER! Brantley kept asking if we were going to jump off the rocks. Those familiar with Lake Martin - she was referring to Acapulco Rock. These are rocks similar to cliff diving. She wanted to go jump after seeing others do it. Oh boy Oh boy - we have the biggest dare devil on our hands. Any volunteers to ride the roller coaster with our child - since neither Ed nor I like them!
