The sweetest prayer

Our friends Wendy and Riley are missing their husband and daddy very much right now. I told Hunter as we were getting ready for bed that Riley was very sad right now because he misses his daddy. As Hunter was saying his prayers last night, he said, “God help Riley who’s missing his daddy right now and help him not be so sad.” When he finished, he said, “Mommy, is Riley’s dad playing with God in Heaven?” I said OH YES! I know that he is playing because Dustin would be right in the middle of play time in heaven. Hunter went on to say, “I bet Mr. Dustin thinks God is really cool!”

I was so proud of Hunter for remembering his friend Riley in his prayers. I ask that you too will pray for Wendy and Riley during this season of their lives.

The Dining In Charleston

Posted in Vacation on March 29th, 2006 by edwardelawrence

To continue my discussion of our wonderful 10th anniversary vacation, I have to elaborate on the awesome food we ate. For our first meal, we dined at Bubba Gump’s for fun. We had just drove seven hours and didn’t want to wait around for a table and decided to try out Bubba Gump’s Seafood. It was a very entertaining place with lots and lots of memoriabilia from the movie, Forrest Gump. During our dining experience, the waiter decided to test our trivia knowledge of the movie. To my greatest surprise, Sallie knew almost every question he could throw at her. She only missed two out of 50 or so.

The next evening was to be considered our anniversary date. We got late reservations at Charleston’s exclusive, Peninsula Grill restaurant. It was pure awesome. They sat us at table 10 just for our anniversary of which was one of the best tables in the house. We both had steak that melted in your mouth and desert to die for. On our desert plates, they wrote Happy Anniversary in melted chocolate. It was definitely the best place we ate on the trip.

To say the least, we enjoyed all the food eaten in Charleston. Two other restaurants that were excellent are 82 Queen and Poogan’s Porch. If you ever get a chance to visit this city, definitely eat at these. Tomorrow’s discussion, the history.

Our 10th Anniversary Trip

Posted in Vacation on March 27th, 2006 by edwardelawrence

This past weekend, my wife and I celebrated our 10th anniversary. And while you think that isn’t such a big hurdle, we consider it an awesome thing. We celebrated by vacationing alone to beautiful Charleston, South Carolina and staying at the Belvedere Bed & Breakfast. Because there is so much to talk about, I’ll break it down over the week. Today’s topic, the host. Joann was our host at the Bed & Breakfast and presented herself as being a true southern lady. Needless to say, she was faking. Joann didn’t even know how to make sweet tea. She was very polite but had a brash side that would present itself every so often. One particular morning, I went downstairs before Sallie and met her in the dining room. Joann asked, “Would you like me to fix your coffee before breakfast?” Of course, I was very grateful until she followed the sentence with this. “From the first day you arrived, I could see that you were house trained. I know that you won’t place the cup on the antique furniture, etc. Some of our guests are not that way but I can tell you are.” I was just stunned and speechless. If I would have been in my element, I’m afraid I would have spoken back something like, “Yep, Sallie taught me long ago how to not lift my leg on the couch.” The vacation however was extraordinary. Tomorrow’s topic, the food.

Systematic Theology

Today was another great discussion of systematic theology. Well sort of. Let’s just say there are a lot of us who can ramble on and on and on and on and on and on. Get my point? We talked about the Authority of Scripture. Simply, how do we know the Bible is truth? Because it plainly says it IS. Ed

If I only had a nickel

If I only had a nickel everytime someone asked me if this is my natural color hair.

Today I went to a new place to get my hair cut. The minute I sat down and the girl starting looking at my hair and talking with me about what I wanted done, her first comment was “your colorist is amazing”, “Who does your color?”. My answer: “That would be God”. She was amazed that this is my natural color and that I have “natural highlights” aka silver (as I like to refer to it) hair among the red. I got tickled at her and her comments.

I must tell you - I love the new place. It is Votre Spa and Salon at Patton Creek. When you arrive they give you a relaxation treatment that lasts about 5 minutes. Then they offer you a cup of hot tea or ice water. Then it is off to the salon by way of the relaxation room. It is a full service salon. I really enjoyed the gal that cut my hair and the whole experience. I think this will become my new hair cutting place!

Oh yeah - Ed likes the hair cut too!

For my Aunt Kelli

We will be coming through Atlanta Sunday. We’ll stop by to pick up my wedding quilt - 10 years later. I know you really intend for it to be our 25th anniversary gift right?

You know we love you!

Kelly Update

Got this from Kelly tonight. Please continue to pray for she and Burt.

Just wanted to let you that I was in touch with MD Anderson today and there are no studies or treatments available to me.

I have an appointment with an oncologist in Birmingham the first week in April.

Mama has been on the phone and on the internet non-stop trying to find something for me. Some possibilities are turning up. The only thing, they are ALL completely experimental. All the drugs separately have been used on humans, but never used on humans as combination. Kinda scary.

Trip to Neverland

Hunter and Brantley spent the day with their Aunt Amy. They went to Neverland (aka the Hoover Library). Here are some pictures from their day of adventure. I hope the pirates return my children soon.
