Random Pictures

just posting a few random pictures taken by us the past week or so…

hunter self portrait.jpg
Hunter took this picture of himself and his latest obsession legos. Is obsessing over legos like he does healthy?

brantley pic.jpg
Hunter took a picture so Brantley did also. Pretty good aim I must say!

giraffes.jpg
A trip to the Zoo Sunday allowed us a chance to meet the newest addition to the zoo, a giraffe born earlier this month.

lorikeets.jpg
My favorite thing to do at the Zoo - feeding the lorikeets. I love the fact that they land right on you and drink from your hand.

the big desk.jpg
I am the proud owner of a new desk. Here’s the story - a lady who worked in our system was retiring. Our department bought her furniture for her years ago. They didn’t want the furniture ending up with another department, so they needed someplace to move it. I was asked if I wanted it. Sight unseen - I said sure. I knew it was bigger than the L-shaped secretary desk I had. I was told it was just like my suitemates’ furniture. I was just excited to get something that matched everyone else in my office. I had no idea HOW BIG it was!!! It is huge!!!! Anyone ever seen the skit where Lily Tomlin is dressed as a baby sitting in a big high chair? Well that’s what I feel like. There’s enough room under the desk for a twin bed. I think some curtains around the edge would be perfect and then I could take a nap without being disturbed.

Tailgating anyone?????

Husband of the Year

Posted in Uncategorized on August 25th, 2006 by sklteach

If there were such an award - I know my WONDERFUL hubby would be the winner. Here’s the story behind why he is the winner….

Tomorrow night we are having a big shindig at our home. Normally I would do the “my friends are coming over” clean. (Let me explain that - they are my friends - they have seen my house in every phase their is, the VERY clean one, the clean one, the friends are coming over - hide everything phase, the friends are dropping by - didn’t have time to clean phase and the just come in - I haven’t cleaned a thing phase.) Most of the folks coming tomorrow night are what I consider “adults”. They are friends from church but many of them are a little older than we are - their kids are in the student ministry. So in order to make a good impression, last week I informed Ed I would take off from work today to clean the house. We are so exhausted at the end of the day - that it takes every bit of energy to cook dinner, clean the kitchen, do homework, do laundry, and bath the kids. Cleaning the toilets and dusting are the last thing on my mind. After all - a toilet without a ring could be considered clean right? When I made that statement, Ed quickly said, “Oh yeah - I have been meaning to do something.” He picks the phone up and makes a call to a maid service. The price they gave was a little high. So disappointed was I. Luckily, my friend Wendy had given me the number of the lady cleaning her home. I had held it in a safe place for about 6 months. I just happened to have the number handy when Ed needed it. I ran and pulled it from my Bible and delivered the number to the soon to be Husband of the Year. He called the “Cleaning Fairy” and set up a date for her to come look at at home. After meeting her and her visiting the home, she agreed to take us on as clients. THEREFORE - THE HUSBAND OF THE YEAR AWARD goes to ED!!!!

I have 100+ people headed to my home tomorrow night and I am not the least bit stressed because the Cleaning Fairy flew through my home yesterday. The floors are clean, the toilet sparkling and the kids rooms - all the toys have found a home OFF the floor. I don’t know how to act. All Ed could say when he walked in the door was WOW!

Funny from this…Apparently in her cleaning up she found a dollar and put it next to Hunter’s piggy bank. Side story - We have been teaching the kids that when you give an offering to God, he always give you something back. It’s not always money, but it can be something that you weren’t expecting. Another side story - Hunter found a Hot Wheels Four wheeler that he could not live without. We told him, he could save his money and then purchase it. When he found the dollar in his room, he came running downstairs, “MOM JESUS LEFT ME A DOLLAR now I can buy my Hot Wheels I’ve been wanting.” I din’t have the heart to tell him, but I guess in a way Jesus did give him the dollar. Last night, we went to the store and are now the proud owners of a Hot Wheels four wheeler.

In love or In Sane!

Either I really love hanging out with 115 teenagers or I am completely insane. This weekend I chaperoned our Chi Alpha Fall Retreat. I go mainly as the person who comes up with all the games for the kids to play - but I think that might change in the future. Our kids are great - I can’t say enough good stuff about them. Other than the occassional “test the waters” kids - they are really a great bunch. They worked very hard on learning their music for the fall and took great care in getting to know the “new kids”. The maturity level of our students has changed so in the past few years. Each year I am more humbled and challenged than the year before. I know this year is going to be very exciting in the life of Chi Alpha - I can’t wait to see what God is going to do with them. (And YES I do know where we are going on tour - but I’m not telling!)

This year’s hit game….Redneck Paintball. It was a classic!

MAGGIE’S HOME!

Posted in Uncategorized on August 21st, 2006 by sklteach

Five days later after running away during a storm - we have our sweet Maggie back. She was taking shelter in a storm drain about a block away from the house. Saturday night Ed decided to go from storm drain to storm drain rattling her treat jar. Ed heard a faint wimper and kept rattling. He was able to get her to stand up on her hind legs enough for Ed to grab her collar and pull her up (Ed has some battle wounds from the concrete). She didn’t smell too nice - but a little Pantene does a dog good! The kids were so excited that Maggie was home. Our family is now complete once again. Maggie is now and forever more an inside dog unless we are outside with her.

Thanks for the prayers

All went smooth at the dentist today. Hunter is now the prize owner of a shiny silver tooth. They both got their piggy noses (H’s is red - B’s is pink). H took a little longer to get woozy than anticipated - but after about 10 minutes he was finally in la la land. B was a trooper - didn’t even bother her one bit.

Mom and Dad survived also!

Have you seen Maggie?

If you’ve seen our sweet doggie - will you please let us know. Apparently Tuesday during a very bad storm that popped up unannounced, she ran off. This is a very typical behavior of hers and when we know there is a chance of storms, we leave her inside. The last few times - I must say - she hasn’t run off. She has been in her doghouse when we got home. Well it’s Thursday and she still isn’t home. We have checked the storm drains, we have driven up in the houses in the woods behind us, we have rattled her treat jar (which usually is the trick) but no Maggie.

If you live in our neck of the woods and see a little black doggie running around - let us know. Her family misses her greatly!

24 hours and counting……

Thursday is a big day in the Lawrence household. I need you to cover it in prayer. It might seem insignificant in your world - but is huge for us! B is getting a VERY small sugar bug (aka cavity) removed from her teeth. H is having a crown placed on one of his molars. The last time he had a procedure done at the dentist office was a horrible experience. I think more so for me than for him - but I don’t want him to have to go through it again. Both of them will get the prized “piggy nose” (laughing gas), H will also have some medicine to make him a little woosy before we get there. Pray that all goes smooth and that the medicine doesn’t make H freak out like he did last time. Pray that B’s will go smoothly and she will not be scared.

Not the Camper Gal

Posted in Sallie's Thoughts on August 14th, 2006 by sklteach

Let me start this by saying…my idea of camping is a Super 8 Motel where the TV does not work but the air conditioning most certainly does.

This afternoon I ran in the house between my run between work and ballet lessons. When I ran in, the heat hit me square between the eyes. I thought to myself, now I know that we have the air on a digital timer, but this is insanely HOT. I took a quick glance at the thermostat to see that it wasn’t working at all. There was nothing in the display window at all. This meant one of two things - the AC is on it’s last leg or the batteries died in the thermostat. I was cutting it close to getting B to class on time, so I thought I will just call Ed, he can go home early FIX the problem and when I get back home the house will be back to a comfortable 74 degrees. When I tell you the house was hot, the computer in the kitchen was working overtime trying to cool it’s self down.

Needless to say, when I got home Ed was not yet home, therefore the AC had not been fixed. I really think the house got a few degrees warmer while I was gone. Ed arrived shortly after we did. He went straight to the thermostat - replaced the batteries and VOILA it was fixed. Only problem was the temperature was sitting at 85 degrees. He then quickly suggested we go out for dinner. I of course took several LONG seconds to say YES! So out the door it was. When we returned the house was down to a cool 81 degrees. As I type it is getting cooler by the minute. Thank goodness it was was just the batteries and not the unit. I have never been so thankful for AC!!!!

This sidenote is for Tammi - Lee that was practice for the camping trip I am not going on! Even if as I type there is an eight person tent set up in my basement that my kids think is so totally COOL. They can’t wait to go camping in it. Lee - the only thing holding us back is the frige hook up at the camp site. Get that arranged and we will be there although I think getting your preggie wife there might be more of a challenge.
